About the Iron Kodiaks


Iron Kodiaks is a FIRST Robotics Competition team founded in 2013 by a group of students with an interest in engineering and competition. Through mentor, parent and teacher support from both Mission Hills High School and Iron Kodiaks, the students of the MHHS Robotics team are pushed towards rewarding and demanding careers. The students are then inspired to continue the mission and spread this inspiration to younger students, so that they may experience even greater motivation and academic opportunities.

  • New T-shirt Sales! We have begun a new campaign for our T- shirts! Once again, we are selling them for $15 and our campaign lasts until February 10th, so be sure to get yours soon!Update: This campaign has now closed, but we will have a new campaign in the 2017 season!

  • Pneumatics This week, our top focus was finishing our pneumatics to power our arms. Our arm is designed to have one static arm,  one arm that moves towards and away from the static arm, and pneumatics hooked up to pull the arm with a cylinder. We finished our pneumatic circuit this week and also attached our arm to the vertical shafts of the robot. Unfortunately, our arm seems to pick up totes in a rather unstable way, so we will focus on that today and this coming week!

  • Omni Wheels This past week, we finished our Omni Wheel orientation and can now focus on our robot's function. This took longer than normal due to the need for an extra wheel in the center of our bot, which required the ability to suspend a motor in the center of the chassis. In the end we managed it by having two metal beams across our chassis for the gearbox to attach to. Also, thanks to Richard Henning, we have all the parts we need to make our arm's lifting mechanism and grabber. We even got our Rookie All-Star banner, so expect to see it at the Regional!   • Recycle Rush 5 days ago, the newest FRC challenge was announced, known as Recycle Rush. In this game, robots are tasked with manipulating bins, totes, and pool noodles in order to form stacks on platforms. An interesting aspect about this game is the linkage between opposing alliances through the coopertition bonus, in which robots on both alliances must stack yellow totes on a pedestal for 20 points each. This is beneficial rather than redundant as ranking is no longer measured by winning, but as how many points each robot has compared to other robots. As a result of this, we believe it is beneficial for enemy alliances to communicate with each other in order to climb the ranks quicker than other teams ...
